The Health Coverage of Noncitizens in the United States (2024)

About 39.2% of nonelderly noncitizens (including those who are lawfully present and undocumented immigrants) do not have health insurance. Making up almost one-third of the total uninsured population in the United States, noncitizens face several restrictions on eligibility for Medicaid, CHIP, and Marketplace coverage. This report analyzes healthcare coverage and eligibility of nonelderly noncitizens compared with the entire nonelderly population of the United States.
