That’s Medicaid: When You’re There for Family

This commentary shares the story of Sonia in Missouri. Sonia was forced into early retirement after surviving breast cancer and two kidney transplants. Soon after, she decided to adopt a family member’s young son with developmental disabilities, Amir. Medicaid covers Amir’s preventive doctor’s visits, his speech therapy, occupational therapy, and extensive testing to ensure he stays healthy. Medicaid has enabled Sonia and Amir to have a safe start in embarking on their journey as a new family. That’s Medicaid shares stories of people covered by Medicaid at critical points in their lives, underscoring the importance of stable health insurance coverage to building a nationwide Culture of Health.
