As the COVID-19 Recession Extended Into the Summer of 2020, More Than 3 Million Adults Lost Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance Coverage and 2 Million Became Uninsured

This report measures changes in insurance coverage between April 23–May 12 and July 9–21, 2020 to better understand how the recession caused by COVID-19 affected insurance coverage.

The findings indicate that groups experiencing larger losses in employer-sponsored insurance coverage experienced corresponding increases in public coverage or uninsurance rates, with smaller observed changes in private nongroup coverage rates.
