As SCOTUS Considers ACA’s Future, State Marketplaces Enroll Consumers Amid COVID-19

This commentary examines state-based health insurance marketplaces’ (SBMs) efforts to actively connect consumers to health insurance coverage during the annual open enrollment period that launched Nov. 1. The efforts are unfolding amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis, forcing SBMs to alter their consumer engagement strategies—all while the Supreme Court hears arguments about the fate of the Affordable Care Act.
